Edmund Joseph Mcguire

Edmund Joseph McGuire, 73, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at MyMichigan Medical Center in Midland. Ed was born on May 2, 1951, in Mount Pleasant, son of the late Dennis Leo and Bonnie Jean (Strandburg) McGuire.  He attended Sacred Heart Academy and Mount Pleasant High School. Shortly after graduation Ed married his high school sweetheart Peggy Sponseller and together, they had three children: Scott, Douglas, and Jenna. Ed and Peggy remained best friends throughout his entire life.  Ed worked in and was skilled in many trades. He took great pride in his work in residential & commercial painting and establishing his own business, McGuire Painting.  He was an avid reader, history buff, and sports fan. You could always find him on the sidelines of his kid's games cheering them on along with all of their teammates. There was nothing that would light up his face more than his grandkids. And there was nothing he loved more than hunting with his brothers, friends, and kids. Ed's charm and wit were undeniable. He had his own aura about him and a sense of humor that only he could deliver. He was the type of guy who made friends everywhere he went, and he will be missed by so many. Ed is survived by his children; Scott (William Dunckel) McGuire of Grand Rapids, Douglas McGuire (Jenny Schoeck) of Naperville, Il., and Jenna (Erik) Anderson of Montague; grandchildren, Alyssa McGuire, Lucy Anderson, Tess Anderson, (arriving any day now) Daphne Anderson; great grandchild, Tylon Sanders; mother of his children, Peggy Sponseller; siblings, Dennis McGuire, Colleen (Ken) Harnick, Mark (Kathy) McGuire, Dan (Natalie) McGuire and Christopher McGuire (Renae Martin); brother in-law; Mark Methner; dear friend; Debbie Foster; lifelong friend, Lionel Endres; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by both parents; sister, Kathy Methner; sisters in law; Janice McGuire and Sandy McGuire; nephew, William McGuire; in-laws; Lee (Rose Marie) Sponseller; brothers in-law; Paul (Hulio) Sponseller and Patrick Zuker. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service for Ed will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, July 12, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with Deacon Jim Damitio officiating. A luncheon will follow at Lincoln Reception Center (attached to the funeral home). The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Friday one hour prior to the service.
