Edward A. Kalis, 92, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Monday, Dec. 22, 2008 at Woodland Hospice in Mt. Pleasant. His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 27, at the Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd., with Pastor Melody Olin of Coomer United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Winn. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Coomer United Methodist Church or Woodland Hospice, formerly Hospice of Central Michigan. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Edward was born Aug. 12, 1916, in Lake City, the son of Michael and Anna (Klumpp) Kalis. He married his childhood sweetheart, Bessie Rosalie Jones on March 6, 1939 in Angola, Indiana. A lifelong dairy and crop farmer, Edward loved hunting and fishing and was an excellent marksman. He also enjoyed cutting wood but most important to him was spending time with his family and friends. Edward is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Bessie; and four children, Nancy (Bert) Fodor of Grass Lake, Dixie (Jack) Hegenauer of Six Lakes, Julia (Myron) Esch of Beal City, and Edward H. (Shirley) Kalis of Winn. He was also the fun, loving Grandpa of his 18 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ernest, Paul and Fred Kalis; one sister, Emma; and two great-grandsons, Brian Pruitt and Andrew Kalis.
