Edwardine K. McQuaid, 93, of Mt. Pleasant died Monday, January 7, 2002 at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 10 at Sacred Heart Church with Father Robert Byrne officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. with a vigil service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Athletic Association or to the Sacred Heart Academy Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the service or at the funeral home. Edwardine was born March 28, 1908, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Hugh and Cecelia (O'Hara) Murphy. She married T. F. ''Mac'' McQuaid in 1937 at Sacred Heart Church. Dene graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1926 and received a teaching degree from Central Michigan Normal in 1931. She taught at Sacred Heart and the Gladwin Intermediate School District for several years. She also taught for 30 years within the Mt. Pleasant School System and was the last teacher to teach in a one room school house. She retired in 1973. In addition to Dene's love of music, some of her hobbies included traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Parish and was an active member of the Michigan Retired Teachers Association. Edwardine is survived by two sons, Fred (Virginia) McQuaid of Mt. Pleasant and Edward (Robin) McQuaid of Mt. Pleasant; two daughters, Cecelia McQuaid of Mt. Pleasant and Susan (James) Graham of Battle Creek; nine grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann, Tim, Mike, Eddie, Eric, Michelle and Stephanie McQuaid, Christine Brenner and James Graham II; and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, T. F. McQuaid in 1973; a daughter, Alice Ann in 1958; two sisters, Alice Tuttle and Joanny Reedy; and three brothers, John, Joe, and Leo Murphy.
