Elaine Carol (Smalley) Martin

Elaine Carol (Smalley) Martin, age 77 of Lake Isabella passed away surrounded by her loving family unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus, Grand Rapids.

Elaine was born on December 23, 1942 at Mt Pleasant; she was the daughter of the late Ray and Mary (Smith) Cornell. She grew up in the Mt. Pleasant area and attended the Mt Pleasant schools. Elaine married Harold Smalley at First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant on September 22, 1961. She worked for Ric's in Mt. Pleasant for many years. Her most cherished passion was spending time with her family and she enjoyed doing puzzles, knitting, crocheting, shopping, gardening and reading.

Elaine leaves to cherish her memory her children, Dave (Lori) Smalley, Scott Smalley, Bob (Tammy) Smalley, and Steve (Jill) Smalley; grandchildren, Jena Smalley, Tyler (Kara) Smalley, Chris Smalley, Alex Smalley, Aaron Smalley, Hanna Smalley and Chase, Brinden and Jaxson Smalley; great grandchildren Trevor Isham, Madison Isham, Ryleigh Smalley, Colton Seeley and Austen Seeley; sister, Sharlene (Richard) Wilson and a dear friend, Rae Ann Doepker and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was a member at the Maranatha Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Herold and sister, Betty Spiris.

A funeral service for Elaine will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at the Maier Family Funeral Home, 5483 W. Weidman Road in Weidman with Jerry Sill officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Elaine will be laid to rest in Salt River Cemetery at Shepherd. Please keep in mind that social distancing and face masks will be required.

Memorial donations in Elaine's memory may be made to the Commission on Aging of Mt Pleasant or a charity of your choice.
