Elmer Lemon, 82, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016, at home surrounded by his family. Cremation has taken place and a Funeral Mass for Elmer will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Loren Kalinowski as celebrant and Father Thomas Held as concelebrant. A luncheon will immediately follow at Sacred Heart Parish Hall. His ashes will be interred in Calvary Cemetery later that day with Navy Honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Parish or Woodland Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the church or at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home. Elmer was born April 5, 1933, in Detroit, son of the late Cecil and Elsie (Vivian) Lemon. A 1952 graduate of Warren High School, Elmer married his high school sweetheart, Eleanor Ellie Rose on July 26, 1952, at St. Annes Catholic Church in Warren. From 1951-1959 he served in the U.S. Navy Reserves during the Korean Conflict. He taught technical education at Macomb Community College for over 25 years, retiring in 2000. Some of his favorite pastimes were golfing, fishing, visiting the casino, and watching the Detroit Tigers and Michigan State Football. Elmer is survived by his beloved wife of over 63 years, Ellie; five children, Richard (Cheryl) Lemon of Clinton Township, Edward Lemon of Westland, Dennis (Linda) Lemon of Mt. Pleasant, Karen (Wayne) Meyer of Midland and Teresa Namel of Panama City, FL; nine grandchildren, Sherry (Mark) McConnell, Cindy (George) Schoof, Nathan Lemon, Matthew (Katie) Lemon, Jennifer DHondt, Elizabeth (Greg) Korf, Andrew Namel, Eddie (Cathy) Lemon, and Alex Namel; six great-grandchildren, Allison, Grace, Ben, Jacoby, Luke, and Christopher; sister, Valerie (Frank) Koltuniak of Lexington; brother, Leroy (Doris) Lemon of Alabama; numerous nieces and nephews; and six in-laws, all a part of his extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant grandson, Joseph Michael Lemon; and two brothers, Albert and James Lemon.
