Emma Fisher, aged 85, of Mt Pleasant, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2025, at The Laurels in Mt. Pleasant. Born on June 12, 1939, in Saginaw, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Elijah John and Luella (Brown) Fisher. Emma married Donald Ray Buckles in 1956 in Saginaw County, and he preceded her in death in 1984. A descendant of the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe, Emma worked as a manager for Luigi's Pizzeria in Saginaw before moving to Mt. Pleasant in 2000. She was passionate about weaving baskets and was deeply devoted to her family, cherishing her grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Donald Ray Buckles Jr. of Mt. Pleasant and David (Sharon Peterson) Buckles of Arizona; eight grandchildren, Brooke (Mike) Snyder, Stevie Okeefe, Mallory (Troy) Taylor-Latzko, Chelsea Ashley, Tamara (Mark) Peterson, Bonnie Peterson, Donald Buckles III, Nathan Buckles, and Amanda Stephens; great grandchildren, Logan, Lincoln, and Liberty Rocha, Aaiyana Okeefe, Dominus and Deus Latzko, Blair VanAcker, Teegan and Regan Buckles, Addalyn, Alivia, Allora, and Arabella Ashley-Angiolini, and Mason and Lilah Peterson; one great-great grandson, Grayson Rocha. Her parents preceded her in death; her husband, Donald Ray Buckles, her son, Blair Okeefe, her siblings, Cecil Fisher, Naomi Peterson, Sam Fisher, John Fisher, Larry Fisher, Tony Fisher, and Bill Fisher; and her two infant brothers.
A celebration of her life will be held Sunday, March 16th, at 2 pm at the Seventh Generation Elijah Elk Culture Center.
