Esther Hammond, 92, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at the Isabella County Medical Care, surrounded by her family. Her funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd., with Father David Jenuwine officiating. Cremation will take place following the funeral. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Esther was born April 21, 1917, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Cornelius and Helen (Prior) OSullivan. A graduate of Sacred Heart Academy, Esther married Robert Hammond on June 4, 1937, in Mt. Pleasant. She loved decorating homes and caring for her family. Esther is survived by four children, Terry (Sharon) Hammond of West Branch, Carol (Harold) Kelly of Traverse City, Kathleen Fields of Mt. Pleasant, and Timothy (Debbie) Hammond of Oregon, WI; eight grandchildren, Kristopher (Sean) Kelly, Lori (Doug) Koenig, Lisa Hammond, Sari (Bob) Mellendorf, Kaiti (Jason Piotrowski) Fields, Josh (Ashley) Fields, Jake Hammond and Max Hammond; four great-grandchildren, Kyle and Jake Koenig and Megan and Madison Mellendorf; and two sisters, Helen (Harold) Cook of Sandusky, OH and Barbara (Herm) Schiblehut of Saginaw. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Bob and Don OSullivan; and a sister, Mary Margaret Vukovich.
