Eugene Flamand, 73, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023, surrounded by his family, at MyMichigan in Alma.  Eugene was born on May 10, 1949, in Manitowaning, Ontario Canada, son of the late Emerick and Julia (Jacko) Flamand.  He came to the United States when he was 17 years old and went to work for General Motors shortly after.  He continued working for GM on the line for 30 years.  After retiring from GM, Eugene moved to New York and worked for the Ganienkeh Territory Indian Reservation.  He enjoyed cooking, fishing, native crafts, woodworking, playing hockey, going to the casino, attending pow wow's and watching his grandchildren's sporting events. He also liked to visit family cabins in Point Grondine and Prairie Point.  Eugene loved to travel with his lifelong love, Cora Leaureaux.  He will be greatly missed by so many. Eugene is survived by his children, Tanya Trudeau of Canada, David Flamand, Jean Flamand, and Christina Flamand all of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Trista Owl, Wallace Trudeau, Starr Trudeau, Alden Andy, Kaine Andy, Alyssa Andy, Tommy Wemigwans Jr., Daniel Wemigwans, Amber Flamand, and Andy Flamand; great grandchildren, Mason, Ma-iingan, Ivy, Lavender, Kinsley, Keagan, Korey, Jackson, Rayden, Avery, and Lola; siblings. Helena Flamand, Beatrice (Ronnie) Peltier, Marjorie (Dennis) Flamand, John (Regina) Flamand, Harold (Gail) Flamand, Margaret Flamand, and Danita Mandamin; and sisters-in-law, Melvina Flamand, Rose Wassegijig, Jeanette Leaureaux, and Lilly Leaureaux; godmother, Selena Aiabens; and many nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by both parents; siblings, Stanley (Lorraine) Flamand, Gilbert Flamand, Loretta (Hubert) Flamand and Elizabeth (Leonard) Kimewon; great grandson, Grayson Twocrow; special friend Cora Leaureaux; in-laws, Melvin and Nancy Leaureaux; brother in laws, William Manitowabi, Don Leaureaux, Ollie Leaureaux and Elijah Leaureaux; nephews, Kevin Manitowabi, Mathew Flamand, Ray Flamand, Blaine Kimewon, Makis Leaureaux, Merence Flamand, Ollie Leaureaux Jr., Kyle Trudeau and Allan Wassegijig; and nieces, Pamela Trudeau Stacy Johnson, and Tammy Leaureaux. A funeral service for Eugene will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday, March 10, 2023, at the Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home (2300 S Lincoln Rd., Mt Pleasant, MI 48858) with Rev. Doyle Perry officiating.  All are invited to join the family for a meal immediately following the service at the Lincoln Reception Center (located next to the funeral home).
