Eugene Michael Moutsatson

Eugene Michael Moutsatson, known to many as Gene, passed away at the age of 81 on January 15, 2025, at McLaren Bay Region in Bay City. Born on July 7, 1943, in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan, Gene was the beloved son of the late James Demitrios and Evelyn (Hemma) Moutsatson. His family moved to Mt. Pleasant shortly after his birth, where he later graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1961. Gene met the love of his life, Valerie Yager, on July 4, 1965, during a fireworks display at Island Park. They married on September 2, 1967, in Mt. Pleasant and were blessed with two children, Michael and Kristin. Gene's career began at Jon's Drive-in, and he later joined MacGregor News Agency, starting as a delivery route driver, working his way up to general manager. After the company was sold, he co-founded, with his business associates, a book distributorship called Mountain Town Distributors. That group purchased multiple bookstores, including the Bookmark in Mt. Pleasant. Gene enjoyed reading, golfing, and, most importantly, spending time with his cherished grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Gene is survived by his wife of 57 years, Valerie; children Michael Moutsatson of Mt. Pleasant and Kristin (Tim Cotton) Moutsatson of Jackson; five grandchildren, Conner (Kelsey) Wood, Sage Wood, Gabrielle, Sydney, and Andrew Moutsatson; great-granddaughter, Josephine Wood; sister, Phyllis (Andy) Passariello of Saginaw; sister-in-law, Susan (Jerry) Sundberg; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Peter Moutsatson, and mother-in-law, June Yager. Gene's life will be celebrated at noon on January 24 at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, with Deacon Jim Damitio officiating. A luncheon will follow in Lincoln Reception Center (attached to the funeral home). The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. and one hour before the service on Friday. Cremation will follow.
