Eva L. Downing

Eva Downing, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Woodland Hospice in Mt. Pleasant. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Don Henkes presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd., on Monday from 7-9 p.m. with the Vigil beginning at 8 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Tuesday one hour prior to the Mass. The family requests that donations be made to Woodland Hospice or Tendercare. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Eva was born March 5, 1922, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of the late John and Mary (Welniak) Lackie. She married the late Toney Downing on Feb. 26, 1938, in Nepolion, Ohio. Upon his death on Feb. 14, 2009, they were 12 days shy of their 71st wedding anniversary. She worked as a special education bus driver for Mt. Pleasant Schools. Eva is survived by two children, Robert (Sharon) Downing of St. Johns and Linda (Gary) Bower of Mt. Pleasant; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; six sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Toney; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Terry Tiedeman; sister, Grace Lackie; and brother, Don Lackie.
