He married Betty Elkins on December 29, 1962, at Sacred Heart Church in Mt. Pleasant. Everett was employed by the State of Michigan, working at the State Home as a patient caregiver. Pleasant and James (Patricia) Schafer of Mt. Pleasant; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters, Sister Margaret Schafer, Orielda Farner, Marie Rahl, Lillian Blasen, Beatrice Sheahan and Betty Sunderman; four brothers, Donald "Nick" Schafer, Kenneth Schafer, Norman Schafer, and Francis "Fran" Schafer; and infant brother, Mathias. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors, concluding with a luncheon at the Beal City Knights of Columbus Hall.
