Fannie Traines

December 13, 1921 — June 4, 2026

Mt. Pleasant

Fannie Traines was born in Poland in 1921 and immigrated to the United States with her parents, Leah and Louis Wunderbaum, prior to her first birthday and settled in Indiana. She died in Mt Pleasant, Michigan, on Thursday, June 5, 2026. She grew up with her parents and siblings, Rose Traines, and Sam Wunderbaum, moving along the way to several Indiana towns. After high school, she obtained an Associate's degree in Administrative Assistance in Fort Wayne, IN. It was in Fort Wayne that she met Eugene Traines, who was serving in the US Army, and they married in 1944.

Shortly thereafter, they moved to Mt Pleasant, where they raised their three children Alan Traines, Wendie (Daniel) Dalberg, and Bill Traines.

One of the central features of Fannie’s life and her family’s life was with the formation of and continuation of a Jewish community in Mt. Pleasant. She and her husband were part of a group of founding members of Temple Benjamin. Her husband served as the voluntary Principal of the religious school, and Fannie taught there for many years. It was a very warm, close community in which many children and adults came to form a Jewish identity and enjoy lifelong friendships.

Fannie was widowed at 49 yrs old. She eventually met Ken Henick, and they shared the next 30 years together. As the family matriarch, she remembered everyone’s personal occasions. She was the consummate homemaker and often sent visitors on their way with her home-baked goods. She was a kind, thoughtful, unassuming person who also possessed tremendous resilience. She served as a role model for family and friends. She also liked to laugh, including at herself.

She was predeceased by her husband Eugene Traines, her parents

Leah and Louis Wunderbaum, siblings Rose Traines and Sam Wunderbaum, and her son-in-law, Dan Dalberg.

She is survived by her children Alan Traines, Bill Traines and Wendie Dalberg, grandchildren Emily (Amanda Halperin) Dalberg, Amanda (Alex Lunetta) Dalberg, Liz (Matt Schoner) Traines, Edward (Katie)Traines, Jennifer Traines, and great-grandchildren Grace and Jackson Traines and Maddie Schoner.
