Frances Silverberg

Frances Silverberg, nee Weiner, age 94, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, in Vernon Hills, Illinois. She was born on May 18, 1932, in the small village of Sechov, Poland.

Frances had a beautiful childhood in Poland until the age of nine, when her life was forever changed by the Holocaust. She and her two younger sisters miraculously survived the roundup of the Rokitno ghetto by escaping into the woods. Guided and protected by their older brother, Sidney, the three young girls endured the war years and survived against extraordinary odds. When the war ended, the siblings made their way through East Germany, eventually reaching safety on the American side of Berlin. There, they began to thrive at Camp Ashau, a Displaced Persons camp for war orphans.

In 1947, Frances and her siblings arrived at Ellis Island, welcomed by their aunt and uncle, Gussie and Louis Rothenberg. Frances attended high school and worked before meeting Arthur Silverberg, in Brooklyn, New York.

Frances and Arthur married in 1951 and moved to Detroit where they started a family. They later made their home in Midland and Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Together, they built a life filled with cherished family, lifelong friends and perseverance.

Frances was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur Silverberg, her great-grandson, Harrison Sear and the numerous family members who did not survive the atrocities of WW II.

She is survived by her children: Susanne Pinzur (the late Robert), Steven Silverberg (Janet), and Annette Roth (William Olson); her seven grandchildren, Geri Pinzur Rosenberg, Jamie Manewith (Bradley), Carly Sear (Stephen), Daniel Silverberg, David Silverberg (Ethel Barja Cuyutupa), Stephanie Rhode (Kevin) and Sydney Roth as well as ten great-grandchildren: Hallie, Eli, Norah, Lilah, Brayden, Easton, Lyle, Cassidee, Jaxon and Max.

Additionally, Frances is survived by her dearly loved sisters, Betty Dworin and Sheila Marum, as well as countless nieces, nephews and cousins.

Frances’ life was a testament to courage, resilience and the enduring strength of family. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all who knew and loved her
