Franklin Warren Histed

Franklin Histed, 87, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016, at The Laurels of Mt. Pleasant. His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. January 5, 2017 at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with Pastor Jeremy Selvidge officiating. Burial will be in Fort Custer Cemetery in Battle Creek. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 3-7 p.m. and on Thursday one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to United States Veteran Affairs Hospital. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Frank was born Sept. 6, 1929, in Strongs, Michigan, son of the late Frederick D. and Maggie (Hunter) Histed. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and later served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for B & V Construction in Novi for over 20 years, retiring in 1991. Franklin enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was commander of the VFW, Commander of the American Legion, and served on the honor guard at Fort Custer for 20 years. Franklin is survived by eight children, Victoria (Kenny) Greve of Cadillac, Elizabeth Histed of Cadillac, Randy Histed of Flint, Stephen Histed of New Mexico, Barry (Ar-lyn) Histed of Mt. Pleasant, Warren Histed of Mt. Pleasant, Wayne (Barb) Histed of Davison, and Christopher (Lori) Histed of Fort Hood, Texas; 24 grandchildren including his favorite hunting buddy & grandson, Jesse Martinez, and special grandsons in the Navy, Daniel Histed and Andrew Histed; 32 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Roberta Histed; his granddaughter Katrina Southern; and 21 brothers and sisters.
