Frederick D. Schall, 91, of Mt. Pleasant passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at Woodland Hospice with his family by his side. His memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 19, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Loren Kalinowski presiding. Cremation has taken place. Friends may pay their respects to the family on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at the Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Visitation will continue at the church from 10 a.m. until the mass begins. Memorial contributions may be made to Woodland Hospice. Envelopes are available at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home. Fred was born July 9, 1917, in Traverse City, the son of Ferdinand and Rose (Lindtner) Schall. He married Marie Heintz on April 26, 1943 at Sacred Heart. Prior to moving to Mt. Pleasant, Fred lived in Traverse City working at the family bakery business. He graduated from Chicago College of Optometry and practiced optometry in Mt. Pleasant until the age of 80. Fred served in WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a great father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family. Fred is survived by four children, Frederick W. (Eileen) Schall of New Stanton, PA, James Schall of Mt. Pleasant, Mary Lynn (Joseph) Simons of Mt. Pleasant, and Mary Lee (John) Thomas of Traverse City; two granddaughters, Stephanie (Curt) Brazee of Traverse City and Tiffany (Scott Campbell) Schall of Mt. Pleasant; two great-grandchildren, Kathryn and Jacob.
