Garnet Alice Serniak

Garnet Alice Serniak, age 66, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, formerly of Spring Lake, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Woodland Hospice House near Mt. Pleasant. Garnet was born on February 22, 1951 in Detroit, the daughter of Alfred John and Florence Joan (Myers) Chown. She was employed in the retail field in sales for many years. She was active with the Heaven Can Wait, an animal rescue group. Garnet is survived by her children: Janna Michelle Serniak of Jakarta, Indonesia, Christie Joann Serniak and significant other, Samantha Anne Sherwood of Mt. Pleasant and Mark Andrew Serniak of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. Also surviving is a grandson, Andrew David Porter and two brothers, Wes Grady of North Carolina and Tim Beres of Colorado. She was preceded in death by both parents and her stepfather Julius Beres. A memorial service is planned for early summer.
