Gary Jankowsky Sr., 73, of Blanchard, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. He was born June 29, 1943, in Mt. Pleasant, son of the late Alex and Julia (Smith) Jankowsky Sr. After graduating from Clare High School in 1961, he served in the U.S. Navy for two years. On Feb. 12, 1966, he married Joyce A. Dutmers in Remus. He was employed as a welder for Morbark for 22 years and retired from the Michigan Department of Corrections after 11 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching NASCAR and football. But more than anything, he loved spending time with his family. Gary is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joyce Jo; three children, Lisa (Richard) VanBonn of Blanchard, Gary (Kim) Jankowsky Jr. of Blanchard and Marty (Verona) Jankowsky of Midland; 11 grandchildren, Rachel (Luke) Robbins, Devon VanBonn, Ashlee (Wes) Gaines, Chelsea Jankowsky, Jordann (Adam) Coon, Nathan Jankowsky, Jesse Mack, Jordan Mack, Joshua Mack, Maxwell Jankowsky, and Isabel Jankowsky; three great-grandchildren, Cade, Morgan, and Maci; one great-grandchild on the way; sister, Mary Wixon of Farwell; brother-in-law, Jeff VanSicklen of Clare; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alex Jankowsky; and sister, Barbara VanSicklen. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Monday from 3-6 p.m. No formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to University of Michigan Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.
