Gayla Harms, 83, of Midland, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2018, at Woodland Hospice House in Mt. Pleasant. Gayla was born June 27, 1935, in Edmore, MI, daughter of the late Lestin A. and Bessie L. (Keeler) Gavin. She graduated from Vestaburg High School in 1954 where she was valedictorian, class president and homecoming queen. Gayla was employed by the city of Midland for both the fire department and water department. She was a member of the Red Hat Society of Beal City. Described by her grandchildren as patient, caring, and supportive, Gayla will be missed by all who knew her. Gayla is survived by two sons, Thomas (Cheri) Harms of Freeland and Jeffery (Penny) Harms of Midland; three grandchildren, Alison (Lance) Tyslicky, Kaylee (Kyle) Decker, and Ryan Harms; three great grandchildren, Lucas, Jackson, and Emerson; three sisters, Shirley Weber of Beal City, Nancy (Lawrence) Marshall of Vestaburg, and Jeannie (Gary) Anderson of Texas; two step-grandchildren, Melissa (Robert) LaLonde and Steven (Candice) Scott; four step-great grandchildren, Hattie, Eliza, Nineveh, and Xara; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and longtime friend, Al Maxon. In honor of Gayla, a meal will be served at 5 p.m., Friday, July 6, at Lincoln Reception Center attached to Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home. The family will receive friends beginning at 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to MidMichigan Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the reception center or funeral home.
