Gaylord Gillis Golding, Jr., age 76, tragically died at home on May 3, 2010 following a long bout with his disability and illness. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joanne, children, Lynn and Gary, grandchildren Gary Jr., Gregory, Jamie (Logan) and his great-grandchildren; Christopher, Aubrianna, Gary III, Alyssa and Joshua. He was born May 23, 1933, in Windsor, Ontario, the son of the late Gaylord Gillis Golding Sr., a machinist and clockmaker, and Helen (Stokes) Golding. He entered the National Guard as a young teenager and later enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served as a Military Police officer. It was during his service as a Military Police officer when he met his beloved wife, Joanne, who as a pilot for the Civil Air Patrol had flown onto the base where he served. They were married on May 10, 1952, in Dover, Maine. Leaving the service, he accepted positions with Putman Tool Company until he turned 21 years old and was accepted into the Detroit Police Department. After becoming a seasoned officer, he went on to become a Detective in the public safety department of Grosse Pointe Woods in 1954 where he worked as a police officer and fireman. He was accredited with the first trial dealing with radar technology, solving many serious crimes and having delivered a baby in the back seat of the womans car. He was respected by his family, friends, his colleges and the community. In 1962 he left the police department to work for Michigan Mutual as an insurance adjuster and later moved on to Michigan Blue Cross where he managed their subrogation department. In 1972 he left the insurance industry and co-founded a detective agency, Unlimited Investigation, Inc. where he applied his life talents until his retirement in 1998. He enjoyed Scuba diving, skeet shooting and flying having earned his Private Pilots license. Gaylord Gillis Golding, Jr. lived out his remaining life in Northern Michigan on a small ranch with his family caring for their horses, and pets. He is remembered as a dedicated family man who will be missed by all who knew him. His memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, at Winn United Methodist Church, 8187 S.
