Gene Dale Ketchum, a beloved resident of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025, at McLaren Hospital in Flint, Michigan, at the age of 59. Born on August 9, 1965, in Mt. Pleasant, he was the son of Gene W. and Beverly K. (Smith) Ketchum. Gene was a devoted father to his five children, Daniel, Kevin, Kristi, Ryan, and Erik, whom he shared with his former spouse, Sheryl Sweebe.
Gene was a proud graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School, class of 1983. He dedicated over 30 years of his career to Meijer, where he held many roles over his time there, including grocery department team leader, food lines team leader, and night store director. Outside of work, Gene found joy in the great outdoors, spending his free time fishing, hunting, golfing, and tending to his yard.
He is survived by his children, Daniel (Brandie) Ketchum of Clare, Kevin Ketchum of Mt. Pleasant, Kristi (Shawn) Shay of Mt. Pleasant, Ryan Ketchum of Mt. Pleasant, and Erik Ketchum of St. Johns; his cherished grandchildren, Jasmine and Lexton, Carter, and Connor and Dexter; his father, Gene Ketchum of Cadillac; his siblings, Richard Ketchum long time resident of Mt. Pleasant, Lori (Scott) Farrell of Mt. Pleasant, and William Ketchum of Mt. Pleasant; and his longtime companion, Jo Jo Pisoni. Gene also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Beverly, and his granddaughter, Faith Ketchum.
A memorial service will be held at Clare Church of the Nazarene, on Saturday, August 16th, visitation will begin at 10 am, followed by an 12 pm service. After the service the family welcomes you to join them at the luncheon. Gene will be remembered for his love of family and friends, his dedication to his work, and his passion for the outdoors.
