Genevieve Schmalbach Grandon, 88, of Mt. Pleasant died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005 at Central Michigan Community Hospital. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert Byrne presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with a vigil service beginning at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues at the church from 9-10 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Academy Foundation. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Genevieve was born July 8, 1917 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Bartosik) Smolenski. She married Lawrence Schmalbach on June 18, 1936. After his death in 1948, she married Carroll Grandon on July 14, 1951 at Sacred Heart. She had worked at Ferro Manufacturing for five years, Orens Department Store and also the Regional Center for Developmental Disabilities for five years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, the Moose Lodge No. 195, and enjoyed gardening, sewing and reading. Genevieve is survived by her husband, Carroll Grandon of Mt. Pleasant; two sons, Lawrence (Janet) Schmalbach of Lake and James (Kayla) Schmalbach of Potterville; a daughter-in-law, Maureen Schmalbach of Beal City; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one brothers, Casimer (Nete) Smolenski of Lansing; and two sisters, Agnes Noyes of Midland and Irene Maciaszek of Lake Orion. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Lawrence Schmalbach in 1948; son, Michael Schmalbach in 1985; two brothers, Peter and Stanley Smolenski; and two sisters, Bernice Cox and Sylvia Kent.
