George Jeffrey Barbour, 73, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at Green Acres Assisted Living. His funeral will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, October 13, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with Pastor Jeremy Selvidge of First Church of the Nazarene officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow at the funeral home. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and on Friday one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimers Association. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Jeff was born June 3, 1944, in Maple Shade, NJ, son of the late George and Veronica (Weidman) Barbour. He married Patricia Flukey on July 23, 1965, in Maple Shade, NJ. Jeff was a professor of economics at Central Michigan University for 40 years, retiring in 2011. He received his Bachelors degree from Rutgers University, Masters degree from the University of Oregon, and Ph. D. from the University of Florida. He and his family owned and operated Barbour and Daughters Antique Glass in Mt. Pleasant. Some of his favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing, and he was very proud of his apple orchard on the family property. Jeff is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia; four daughters, Dawn (Estel) Tanner of Lake Isabella, Diana (Jim) Jacobs of Fishers, IN, Autumn (Bill) Voss of Midland, and Amber Barbour (Chris Edmonds) of Mt. Pleasant; 13 grandchildren, Alexandra and Shelby Carter, Nicholas, Brodie, and William Jacobs, Morgan, Laura, Riley, and Jackson Voss, and Justin Edmonds, Seth Barbour, Ambrosia Yarch, and Dominic Matney; two brothers, Thomas (Barbara) Barbour of Waveland, MS and Jamie (Patti) Barbour of Portland, OR; two sisters-in-law, Anne Barbour of Morristown, NJ and Lora Barbour of Maple Shade, NJ; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Veronica Barbour; and three siblings, William Barbour, Mary Barbour, and Roger Barbour.
