George G. Martin

George G. Martin, 84, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility due to complications of lung cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 11, at Lux Funeral Home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Alma. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and on Friday from 9-10 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Isabella County Medical Care Facility or to the Commission on Aging. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. George was born September 23, 1919 in St. Louis, the son of Carl and Elizabeth Martin. He married Beth Romine November 26, 1944 in St. Louis. He was employed with Consumers Power in Alma and was the manager of the Mt. Pleasant Consumers Power office from 1961-1975. He served in the United States Army in California during World War II. He enjoyed gardening for many years, but fishing for trout in his younger years and walleye later in life was his favorite pastime. George is survived by his son, Reg (Becky) Martin of Weidman; four grandchildren, Elke (Bob) Popiel of Alpharetta, Ga., Deb (Ed) Giammattei of North Branford, Ct., Tim (Katherine) Martin of Goose Creek, SC, and Dru (Nicole) Martin of Mt. Pleasant; and three great grandchildren, Eddie and Gabi Giammattei of North Branford, Ct. and Tyler Martin of Mt. Pleasant. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beth; son, Michael; brother, Nelson; and sister, Frances.
