George Clapp Jr, 92, of Mt Pleasant passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, November 12, 2023, at his home. George was born July 3, 1931, in Asher Oklahoma, son of George and Elaine (Halsell) Clapp. George graduated from the Hayes Township Agriculture High School (now Harrison H.S.) with the class of 1949. He attended Davenport Institute in Grand Rapids. He enlisted in the United States Marines serving his country from 1951-1954. He fought in The Korean Conflict. After returning home he married Diana Wilson at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Gladwin. George worked in the Oil and Gas industry for over 65 years beginning as a supply driver at night while attending Central Michigan University and retiring in 2019 as the owner of G.S. Clapp Inc. He belonged to The Pere Marquette Fishing and Hunting Club for 50 years and for over 50 years was part of a Monday night poker club. George also served his community through the Kiwanis Club and as a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. George is survived by his wife of 69 years, Diana; children Sue Joyce, Marc (Tracie) Clapp and Todd Clapp; Grandchildren, Jordan, Dustin and Andrew; brother in laws, Gino Rossetti of Colorado, Stan Glover of Rhode Island and sister in law, Shirley Wilson of Harrison. He was preceded in death by both parents; siblings Skeezix, Donna and Joann. A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Monday November 27, 2023, at 11:00 am with Deacon Jim Damitio officiating at the Lincoln Reception Center (attached to Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home). In lieu of flowers you may consider a donation to St. John's Episcopal Church or an animal shelter/rescue center of your choice.
