Gerald L. Lonergan, 66, of Lake, passed away Sunday, May31, 2009, at MidMichigan Medical Center in Clare. His Memorial Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 13, at Farwell Church of Christ with the Rev. Mike Waugh officiating. The family is being served by the Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Jerry was born Nov. 5, 1942, in Berrien County, the son of LaVerne and Mary (Garrett) Lonergan. A graduate of Barryton High School in 1961, Jerry served in the U.S. Army from 1962-1965. He married Sue Phelps on Oct. 23, 1971, in Mt. Pleasant. He was a truck driver most of his life and belonged to the Teamsters Union. He enjoyed almost any outdoor activity, including hunting, fishing, and camping. Jerry is survived by his wife, Sue; two sons, Kenny Lonergan of Weidman and Mark (Robin) Phelps of Farwell; two grandsons, Tyler Phelps and Aaron Lonergan; brother, Fred (Vera) Lonergan of St. Louis; two sisters, Sharon Hall of Alma and Kay (Doug) Middleworth of Weidman; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Jim Garrett, Larry Lonergan, Denny Lonergan, and Paul Dagon.
