Gerald Jerry Ralph Powell, 70, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away at home after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He will be remembered for his devotion to his family and will be missed by many friends. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Jerrys life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert Byrne presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-5 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Wednesday evening from 7-9 p.m. with a vigil service beginning at 7:30 p.m. There is also visitation at the church on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan (401 S. Main, Mt. Pleasant MI 48858) or to the Sacred Heart Academy Foundation (302 S. Kinney, Mt. Pleasant MI 48858). Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Jerry is survived by his dearly loved wife of 38 years, June Powell of Mt. Pleasant. He will be remembered with joy by sons, Paul of Milan and Jim of New Jersey; daughters, Cindy (Dick) Wilson of Mt. Pleasant, Laura (James) Palma of Grand Rapids, Amy of Traverse City, and Pam (Joe) Haupt of Mt. Pleasant; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren, Trevor Wilson, Allison and Megan Kaniski, and Darren and Andrew Wilson; brother, Jim Powell of Mt. Pleasant; sister, Betty (Charlie) Johnson of Mt. Pleasant; and sister-in-law, Jean Powell of Mt. Pleasant. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mary Powell; brothers, Tom Powell and Max Gaudard; and sisters, Margaret Jackson and Mary Margaret Powell.
