Geraldine M. Childs, 92, of Lapeer and formerly of Warren passed away Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at Devonshire Assisted Living in Lapeer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Loren Kalinowski presiding. Interment of her and her husbands ashes will take place at 9:30 a.m. the following morning at Calvary Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects to the family on Sunday from 6:30-9:00 p.m. at the Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd. in Mt. Pleasant. The Vigil will begin at 8 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Monday one hour prior to Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to Mayo Clinic, Alzheimers Disease Research, 200 First St. SW, Rochester, MN 55905. Geraldine was born September 4, 1916, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of William and Hannah (Godbold) Fate. She married Mac Arthur Childs on Aug. 18, 1937. She was a member of St. Cletus Parish in Warren, and a former member of St. Raymond Parish in Detroit and Sacred Heart Parish in Mt. Pleasant. Geraldine enjoyed golfing, square dancing, hiking, traveling, spending winters in Florida and Arizona with her husband and family, decorating her home, cooking, sewing, flower gardening, cribbage, and card games. She especially loved spending time with her family. Each grandchild remembers taking a special vacation with Grandma and Grandpa. She was a member of Roman Terrace Condo Association in Warren for 21 years. She moved to Devonshire Retirement Village in June of 2008 and loved her new home. The family would especially like to thank the wonderful staff and caregivers at Devonshire as well as Heartland Hospice. Geraldine is survived by her sons, Michael (Judith) Childs of Lapeer, Dennis (Faye) Childs of Richland, PA; daughter, Benita (John) Silvestri of Argyle, TX; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and half-siblings, Gladys Hall of Mt. Pleasant and Bob (Pat) Fate of Flushing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mac Arthur Childs in 2001; two brothers, Richard and Harry Fate; and two sisters, Ruth Fate and Leona Sutherland.
