Geraldine Gerry Schumacher, 84, of Beal City, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at MidMichigan Medical Center in Mt. Pleasant. A Funeral Mass for Gerry will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 2, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Beal City with Father Thomas Held as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the Beal City Knights of Columbus Hall. The family will receive friends in the gathering room of the church on Wednesday from 3-7:30 p.m. with the Vigil beginning at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Thursday one hour prior to Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph the Worker School or St. Joseph the Worker Church Funeral Luncheon Committee. Envelopes will be available at the church or at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home. Gerry was born October 28, 1933, in Limon, Colorado, youngest of 12 children of Francis and Bessie (McBurney) Thorp. She graduated from Weidman High School. On January 3, 1953, she married Donald S. Schumacher at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Beal City. A faithful woman, Gerry was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish where she volunteered on the funeral luncheon committee. Some of her favorite pastimes were playing cards, golfing, traveling, and visiting different casinos. More than anything, she loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren who adored her. A kind and friendly woman by nature, Gerry was loved by many. Her family enjoyed her wonderful cooking, especially her potato salad and desserts. Gerry is survived by six children, Steve (Betty) Schumacher of Lake Isabella, Kathy (Bob) Brzak of East Jordan, Rodney (Cindy) Schumacher of Beal City, Carolyn (Tim) Aeschliman of Beaverton, Nancy Flaugher of Beal City, and Dave Schumacher of Beal City; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; in-laws, Nelson Loomis of Casper, Wyoming and Harley (Katie) Schumacher of Grand Haven; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Bessie Thorp; husband Donald in 2015; grandson, Kyle Schumacher in 1983; and 11 siblings, William Thorp, Arthur Thorp, James Thorp, Gertrude Thorp, Nettie Arcieri, Virginia Fraham, Betty Loomis, Harold Thorp, Don Thorp, Alma Smith, and Frances Harris.
