Gladys May Walker, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Green Acres Assisted Living at the age of 97. She was born on August 8, 1927, in Isabella County, Michigan, to the late Herbert H. and Mable (Maxon) Winnie. Gladys married John Walker on August 27, 1949, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and together they were blessed with eight children: Kathleen, Eileen, Daniel, Michele, Laurie, Bruce, Sharon, and Scott.
Before starting her family, Gladys worked at Union Telephone as an operator from the ages of 18 to 22. Later, she dedicated over 17 years as a rural mail carrier. Gladys had a passion for traveling and cherished her time with family. She volunteered for many years at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility.
Gladys is survived by seven children, Kathleen (Dan) Reeves of Dearborn, Eileen (Scott) Wagner of Hastings, Daniel (Deborah) Walker of Dallas, TX, Michele (John) Kugler of Phoenix, AZ, Bruce (Kathy) Walker of Flint, Sharon (Jim) Walker Johnson of St. Croix, Virgin Islands, and Scott (Anne) Walker of Chicago, IL; 20 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren (with one on the way); siblings Lorraine (Louis) Withey of Edmore and Duane (Shirley) Winnie of Mecosta; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; infant daughter, Maureen; daughter, Laurie Dumdei; grandson, Dylan Walker; siblings, Bruce Winnie, Hilda Jean Winnie, Lucille Craven, Earl Winnie, Irene Reed, and Helen Winnie.
A Funeral Mass for Gladys will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, July 11, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father Matt Gembrowski will preside. Rite of Committal will be in Calvary Cemetery concluding with a luncheon at Lincoln Reception Center (attached to the funeral home). The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. with the Prayer Service and time for sharing beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Friday one hour before Mass.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Academy Foundation or Medical Care Facility Auxiliary. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
