Glen Matthews, 76, of Weidman, passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at Margaret's Meadows in Remus, MI. Glen was born May 24, 1945, in Weidman, MI, son of the late Norbert and Lorraine (Doll) Matthews. He graduated from Beal City High School with the class of 1964. Glen married his high school sweetheart, Carol Funnell, on August 7, 1965, at St. Joseph the Worker Church in Beal City. Together they raised four children, Cheryl, Nanette, Kevin, and Brenda in Beal City. Glen was employed by Morbark for 41 years and retired from the company in May of 2007. He enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing. One of his greatest joys was to interact with his grand and great grandchildren; he loved them all dearly. Glen is survived by his wife Carol (Funnell) of Weidman; children, Cheryl (Wes) Schutt of Weidman, Nanette Karavas of Central Lake, Kevin Matthews of Weidman, Brenda (Kirk Kuske) Turner of Midland; grandchildren, Cody (Kristin) Schutt, Crissa Karavas, Cole Karavas, Christopher (Clara) Matthews, Alex (Melanie) Matthews, Jake (Annie Noch) Matthews, Catie Matthews, Ben (Jesse Pratt) Matthews, Nicole (Gary Smith) Turner, Courtney (Tommy Bryant) Turner and Zachary Turner; great grandchildren, Madison, Skylar, Deakon, Abe, Charlotte, Jessica, Raelynn, and Delilah; siblings, Donna (Fred) Grady of Mecosta and Della (Mike) Oberlin of Blanchard; in-laws, Joyce Carter, Betty (Willis) Bouchey and Lois Funnell. Glen was preceded in death by both parents; brother, David Matthews; brother-in-law, Melvin Funnell. A Funeral Mass for Glen will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 10, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Beal City with Father Thomas Held as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery and a luncheon will follow at the Beal City Knights of Columbus Hall. The family will receive friends in the gathering room of the church on Wednesday from 4-7:30 p.m. with a Rosary beginning at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues Thursday one hour prior to Mass.
