Harriet Smith, 84, of Beal City passed away Sunday, June 15, 2008 at Central Michigan Community Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, at St. Joseph The Worker Church in Beal City with Father Thomas J. McNamara presiding. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd., on Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. with the Vigil at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the Mass begins at 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph School or the Isabella County Medical Care Facility. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Harriet was born Feb. 14, 1924, in Isabella County, the daughter of Joseph and Regina (Martin) Lawens. She married the late Edward Smith on Nov. 9, 1946 at St. Philomena Church in Beal City. Her family was very important to her and caring for them was the number one priority in her life. She was a member of St. Joseph Parish, the Altar Society, and served as a Lector. She enjoyed gardening and sewing. Harriet is survived by nine children, Norma (Paul) Lyden of Mio, Barbara Smith of Beal City, Mike (Cindy) Smith of Mt. Pleasant, Glen (Cathy) Smith, Dave (Carrie) Smith, and Tom Smith, all of Beal City, Ann (Doug) Rau of Novi, and Betty Pasch and Deb (Dave) Faber, both of Beal City; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her half-sister, Johanna (Walter) Smith of Mt. Pleasant. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward in 1984; parents; and a son-in-law, Mark Pasch in 2006.
