Harriet H. Wood, 88, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of Terre Haute, Indiana died Thursday, December 5, 2002 at her daughters home in Lake Isabella. Visitation will be held at Lux Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant on Friday from 3-8 p.m. Visitation will continue in Terre Haute on Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at Callahan Funeral Home (2425 Wabash Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47807, 812-232-4351). Her funeral is 9:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery in North Terre Haute. Memorial contributions may be made to MidMichgian Hospice (3007 N. Saginaw Rd., Midland MI 48640) or to the American Heart Association (Dept. 77-3968, Chicago IL 60678-3968). Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Harriet was born July 17, 1914, in Catawissa, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Herbert and Jeanette (Fenstimacher) Gable. She married Merle C. Wood on January 23, 1932 in Detroit. She was a bookkeeper at Bank of the Commonwealth in Detroit for 10 years. She later worked 12 years as a cook for Indiana State University retiring on Aug. 1, 1979. She was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed playing cards. But most important to her was her family, especially her grandchildren. Harriet is the loving mother of two daughters, Glenna (Robert) Farrugia of Lake Isabella and Marilyn (William) Elston of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; and beloved grandmother of 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Irma Timko, Mary Jane Wood, and Frances Wood, all of Terre Haute. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle Wood in 1991; two brothers, Frank Gable and Ted Gable; and three sisters, Evelyn Allen, Edna Betzler, and Kathryn Roberts.
