Harry Joseph Smith

Harry Smith, 78, of Beal City passed away Monday, December 18, 2017, at his home with his family by his side, joining his son, Tony, who passed away yesterday. A Funeral Mass for Harry (and Tony) will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 21, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church with Father Thomas Held as celebrant. A luncheon will immediately follow at the Beal City Knights of Columbus Hall. The family will receive friends in the gathering room of the church on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. with a Rosary beginning at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Thursday one hour prior to Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph the Worker School or the Beal City Sports Boosters. Envelopes will be available at the church or at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home. Harry was born May 14, 1939, in Beal City, son of the late Harold and Luella (Hauck) Smith. A 1957 graduate of Beal City High School, Harry married the love of his life, Gertrude Trudy Theisen on December 1, 1962 at St. Philomena Church. He was employed as a truck driver for Fisher Contracting, and in his spare time, farmed. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish. Some of Harrys favorite pastimes were bowling and golfing, however, nothing was more important to him than his family who will miss him dearly. Harry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Trudy; three children, Lori (Don) Fox of DeWitt, Diane (Jeff) Recker of Beal City and Reg (Kelly) Smith of Mt. Pleasant; seven grandchildren, Andrew and Tristen Fox, Caleb and Tory Recker, Trent Smith (Nicole Yoder) and Kersten Smith, and Austin Onstott; sister, Margo (Lendy) Siefker of Mt. Pleasant; in-laws, Chuck MacGregor, Bill Theisen, Jack and Marilyn Theisen, Maggie and Fred Yuncker, and Mike and Ruth Theisen; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Luella Smith; son, Anthony Tony Smith; sister, Lois MacGregor; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Barbara Theisen.
