Hazen R. Pittsley, 74, of Mt. Pleasant died Friday, September 28, 2001. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 2, at Sacred Heart Church with Father Don Henkes officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Sunday from 7-9 p.m., Monday from 2-9 p.m., and at the church on Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. There will be a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pardee Cancer Fund, Hospice of Central Michigan, or the Sacred Heart Foundation. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Hazen was born October 9, 1926, in Flint, the son of Saul and Eva (Petee) Pittsley. He married Molly Malone on June 15, 1957 at St. Matthews Church in Flint. He received his bachelor of science from Fordham University in N.Y. and later received his masters degree in Administration from Wayne State University in Detroit. Hazen retired in the late 70's from the Regional Center for Developemental Disabilities where he served as Director of Nursing and Programs. He had also worked at Hurley Hospital in Flint, Harper Hospital in Detroit, and Newberry State Hospital. He and Molly moved to Mt. Pleasant from Newberry in 1965. Many will remember him as a beekeeper, a hobby that turned into a second career. He was the owner of Pittsley's Apiaries and eventually became a master beekeeper of this business. Hazen was a member of numerous clubs and organizations including, the Mt. Pleasant Lions Club, the American Association of Mental Deficiencies, the American Beekeeping Federation, the American Honey Producers Association, Eastern Apicultures Society, the American Nurses Association and Boy Scout Troop Commissioners. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1297 and a member of Sacred Heart Church as a notable choir member and soloist. Hazen is survived by his wife, Molly of Mt. Pleasant; four sons, Michael Anthony Pittsley of Elwell, Patrick (Bridget) Pittsley of Mt. Pleasant, Mark (Kathy) Pittsley of Mt. Pleasant and Michael Howard (Karen) Pittsley of San Antonio, TX; 12 grandchildren, Chase, Kayla, Courtney, Glenn, Laura, Patrick Jr., Alison, Molly, Hannah, Dan, Matthew and Michaela; one great granddaughter; two sisters, Kathleen (James) Runyan of Los Almos, NM, and Lea Baynon of Long Island, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Dan Pittsley, a daughter-in-law, Jean Pittsley; and a grandson, Daniel Levi Pittsley.
