Helen Marie Grass

Helen Grass, 94, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Sunday, November 14, 2021, at Medilodge of Mt. Pleasant. She was born July 24, 1927, in Saginaw County, daughter of the late Joseph and Sarah (Bowman) Walker. She married Richard E. Grass in 1947 in Oil City, Michigan. Helen earned her Bachelor of Arts from Central Michigan University. Her 33-year teaching career began at Kelly One Room School House in Oil City. She would work in various positions in her first eight years before finding a position as a third-grade teacher in Coleman which lasted 25 years. Some of Helen's favorite pastimes were flower gardening, oil and water painting, sewing, quilting, canning, and cooking. More than anything she enjoyed being with family, especially her grandchildren. Helen is survived by four children, Richard Grass, Gail (Bill) Jacobs, and Gloria (Greg) Harnick, all of Mt. Pleasant, and Randy Grass of Millersburg; seven grandchildren, Richard Grass, Heather Woodworth, Wendy (Troy) Lusk, Traci Munson, Ray (Sandy) Harnick, Becky (Dart) Overfield, and Andrea Litzenburg; 12 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Sarah Walker; husband, Richard Grass; granddaughter, Raeanne Grass; and three siblings. Visitation for Helen will be from 10 a.m. – noon on Thursday, November 18, at First Baptist Church. Her funeral will begin at noon with Pastor Andy Molyneux officiating. Following the service, a luncheon will be served at the church. She will be laid to rest in Kelly Cemetery in Greendale Township, Oil City. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the church or at Charles R.
