Henry McGuirk, 72, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at his daughters home in Midland, surrounded by family. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd., Mt. Pleasant, on Friday from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday from 9-10 a.m. His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 11, at the funeral home with Father Loren Kalinowski officiating. The committal service and military honors will follow in St. Henry Cemetery in Rosebush. A luncheon will conclude at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial gift to VFW Post 3033 in Mt. Pleasant. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Henry was born Feb. 7, 1944, in Mt. Pleasant, son of the late Harold Patrick and Edna M. (Graham) McGuirk. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1962-1966 earning the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Letter of Appreciation, Meritorious Mast and Sharpshooter Badge. In 1978 he graduated from Lake Superior State University and was employed as a commercial contractor and belonged to the Carpenters Local #706. He lived at the gatehouse and was caretaker of Midland Chippewa Nature Center. He was also a member of the VFW, Moose Lodge and Eagles Club. He had a passion for baseball and coached Little League teams from Beaverton to Sault Ste. Marie, and even as far as Japan. He played in the Colt League All Stars and was honored to pitch at Tiger Stadium in 1962. He enjoyed wildlife at the family farm, golfing, fishing, hunting, traveling with special friends, and spending time with his family. Henry is survived by two children; Khristina (Greg) Bate and Randy (Tracy) McGuirk, both of Midland; and their mother, Jeralynn Bement of California; five grandchildren, Jessica, Jennifer and Thomas Bate and Taylor and Lauren McGuirk; great-granddaughter, Ava; his brother, Tim (Vickie) McGuirk of Weidman; four step-children, Tammy, Jeff, Theresa, and George; and their mother, Vicki McGuirk of Auburn; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ruth Ann Marciniack in 1995; and brother, Ted McGuirk in 1995.
