Henry Meabrod, 97, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of Detroit, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Green Acres Assisted Living. Henry was born September 5, 1926, in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Roy and Catherine (Delor) Meabrod. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1946. He was on board the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay when the Japanese officially surrendered, signaling the end of World War II. Upon his return to the states, Henry married Patricia Kelso on January 17, 1948, at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Detroit. He was employed by The Whitaker Paper Co. which eventually became known as Nationwide Papers. He retired as a merchandising manager in 1992, after 50 years of service. He and Patricia were member of St. Philomena Parish in Detroit before moving to Mt. Pleasant in 1997 where they joined Sacred Heart Parish. Henry enjoyed bowling, golfing, traveling, playing cards, and visiting the casino. He is survived by four children, Henry D. (Mary Lou) Meabrod of New Baltimore, Christine Flannery of Mt. Pleasant, Nancy (Al) Ghesquiere of Lake Isabella, and Paul (Gail) Meabrod of Chesterfield Township; grandchildren, David, Kelly, Bill, Maureen, Katie, Brian, Dan, Lisa, Wendy, and Melanie; 25 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchildren; sister, Joyce Gorski of Kentucky; sister in-law, Kathleen Montreuil of Davison; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Catherine Meabrod; wife, Patricia; daughter, Susan Meabrod; grandson, Bryan Ghesquiere; daughter in-law, Janie Meabrod; son in-law, Thomas Flannery; and siblings, Corrine Powell and Roy Meabrod. A Funeral Mass for Henry will be celebrated at 12 Noon on Friday, April 5, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father James Bessert will preside. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. with the Vigil Service beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Friday one hour prior to Mass. Rite of Committal will be in Calvary Cemetery followed by a luncheon at Lincoln Reception Center (attached to the funeral home).
