Herbert R. "Bud" Hileman

Herbert Hileman, 76, of Beal City, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at Woodland Hospice in Mt. Pleasant. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 3, at St. Joseph the Worker Church (2163 N. Winn Rd., 48858) in Beal City. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the gathering room of the church on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with the Vigil beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation continues on Monday, one hour prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Woodland Hospice (2597 S. Meridian Rd., Mt. Pleasant MI 48858, www.woodlandhospice.com) or St. Joseph the Worker School (2163 N. Winn Rd., Mt. Pleasant MI 48858). Envelopes will be available at the church or at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd., Mt. Pleasant. Herb was born Feb. 20, 1935, in Harrison, son of the late William W. and Claire I. (Somers) Hileman. He graduated from Harrison High School in 1953 and earned his bachelors and masters degrees from Central Michigan University. On June 14, 1958, he married Lola Lowe at Our Lady of the Lake in Prudenville. Herb was the Assistant Principal at Cheboygan High School before coming to Beal City High School where he served as Principal. He had also been an insurance agent with Farm Bureau. He loved being a coach and principal and enjoyed his insurance agency. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish, serving as lector, and a member of the Beal City Knights of Columbus, serving as past Grand Knight. Herb is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lola; six children, Genevieve (Leon) White of Columbia, SC, Kathy (Dan) Thayer of Hope Mills, NC, Donna (Walter) Neumann of Fulton, MO, Gary (Rhonda) Hileman of Pinckney, Rod (June) Hileman of St. Johns, and Sandy Hileman of Concord, NC; 12 grandchildren, Brian and Becky, Doug and Casey, Tonia and Jeff, Samantha, Spencer and Elyse, and Taylor, Rachel and Sarah; three great-grandchildren; three siblings, Marjorie (William) Case of Clare, Richard (Esther) Hileman of Houghton Lake and Claire Shaver of Holt; sister-in-law, Marion Hileman of Harrison; many nieces and nephews who truly loved him; and numerous friends and devoted neighbors who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his brother, William Hileman.
