Howard August Slasor

Howard August Slasor passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on April 11, 2025.

He was born at home in Detroit on February 10, 1939, the fourth child of Otto and Ena (Talburg) Slasor. Howard attended Cooley High School and later Graceland College in Iowa. After college, he returned to Detroit to work alongside his father at Slasor Heating and Cooling, continuing the family tradition.

Howard married Virginia Turner, and together they raised four sons: Steve, Mike, Ron, and Scott. In 1992, he married Christine Reeves, gaining three stepchildren: Brad Lemerand, Eric Lemerand, and Krista Lemerand.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Howard had a particular love for hockey, Michigan football, fishing, and golf. Over the years, he sponsored and coached youth hockey teams, and later became a softball and volleyball referee. Golf, though, became his greatest passion—he often played daily, exploring courses all over Michigan. He also loved watching University of Michigan football and was thrilled to see the Detroit Lions nearly reach the Super Bowl in 2025.

Howard had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling in Michigan, Wisconsin, and once even in Colorado. A favorite memory was a pheasant hunting trip to South Dakota with his beloved dog, Sophie.

Hockey was a constant presence throughout his life. As a coach, dad, and player, he shared the sport with his sons and grandsons—many of whom still play today at the Mt. Pleasant Ice Arena.

Howard spent much of his career in HVAC sales and was later proud to serve as a plumbing and heating inspector for Isabella County. Known for his strong work ethic, he was respected and admired for his knowledge and dedication to his field.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Emma and Otha Slasor, who farmed in South Dakota; his parents, Otto and Ena Slasor; his siblings, Jeannie Slasor, Pammy Goll, and Bob Slasor; and his grandson, Michael Slasor.

He is survived by his wife, Christine; sister, Joann McGeorge; sons, Steve (Dawn) Slasor, Mike (Anne) Slasor, Ron Slasor, and Scott (Landa) Slasor; stepchildren, Brad Neilson, Brad Lemerand, Eric Lemerand, and Krista Lemerand; sister-in-law Beth Slasor; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 3, from 1–4 PM at the Eagles Club of Weidman, 6275 West Weidman Road, Weidman, MI 48893. Lunch will be served at 2 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Woodland Hospice and Pulmonary Fibrosis (PF) Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the celebration.
