Hugh "Butch" Simon, 85, of Mt. Pleasant passed away unexpectedly on December 24th, 2020. The family is deeply saddened by the passing of this great husband, father, grandpa, and friend. Butch was born on December 7th, 1935, to Leo George and Virginia (Miller) Simon in Petoskey, MI. Butch grew into a hardworking man who eventually moved to Remus, MI. where he met the love of his life, Judith Godbold. The two would marry on May 10, 1958, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Remus. Butch was a hardworking man, determined to provide for his family. In doing so, he enjoyed working for several companies throughout his life including Packaging Corporation of America, Remus Electric Co., IBEW Local 107, and Leprino Foods in Remus, MI. He also enjoyed the many years that he served as a volunteer fireman for the Wheatland Township Fire Department. Butch was passionate about the outdoors and would frequently be seen driving his tractor, working in the garden, or cutting firewood in his woods. But his real passion was hunting, fishing, or mushroom hunting with his family and friends. Anyone who knew Butch knows that he was the most selfless and loving father and husband a family could ask for. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Judie A. Simon; the children he loved, Julie (Randy) Wernette of Hereford, AZ, Tami Alwood of St. Joseph, Lori (Mike) Darin of Mt. Pleasant, and Mike (Lori) Simon of Remus; siblings, Barbara (Dave) Spindler, Virginia "Ginger" (Sam) Nostrant, Vera (LaVern) Young; sisters in-law, Judy Simon, Sue Simon, and Gale Simon. Butch is also blessed to be the grandfather to 13 wonderful grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren who he deeply loved. Butch was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Jackie Rangel, Dave Simon, Joe Simon, Jude Simon, Dick Simon, and Tony Simon; and great grandson, Lincoln Larrabee. A Funeral Mass for Butch will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 30, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Loren Kalinowski as celebrant. Those unable to attend may watch a live stream of the service on the funeral home's Facebook page by clicking here ( Watch Live Stream ). The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to Mass. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Sacred Heart Parish, 302 S. Kinney, Mt. Pleasant MI 48858.
