Irene L. Chapman

Irene L. Chapman, aged 83, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on February 13, 2026, at Medilodge in Mt. Pleasant, surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 28, 1942, in Au Gres, Michigan, Irene was the second of five children to Donald T. and Margaret M. (Smith) Rhode. She graduated from Shepherd High School in 1960 and dedicated her career to working at the State Home in Mt. Pleasant until her retirement in 1992. She also worked at The Wooden Rocker, known as Prestige Centre.

Irene was married to Dean Chapman, and together they were blessed with two daughters, Deanna and Dawn. She was a cherished member of the Central Baptist Church and the Mt. Pleasant Eagles Club. Irene had a passion for playing cards, dominoes, bingo, and puzzles. A devoted fan of Elvis, she had the joy of seeing him perform live. She also enjoyed her time at the Commission on Aging and spending time with her many friends in the community.

Above all, Irene loved her family deeply, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

Irene is survived by her daughters, Deanna (Dean) Huffman of Mt. Pleasant and Dawn (Joe) Bourque of Alma; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Sam) Hanus, Justin Chapman, Raelyn Pelon, Bryan (Madison) Chapman, Braedon Chapman, and Joel Chapman; great grandchildren, Makena, Brya, Landon, Elijah, Chloe, Chevy, Henley, Olivia, and Emily; sisters-in-law, Sharon Wawersik and Rolene Thomas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald Rhode and Margaret Davis; siblings, Robert Rhode, Margie Foster, Donna Jean Welch, and MIssy Hale; grandson, Jeremy Chapman; and sister-in-law, Frances Chapman.

Irene's funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 17, at Lux Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant with her grandson, Bryan Chapman, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. A luncheon will follow in Lincoln Reception Center (attached to the funeral home). Interment will be in Salt River Cemetery in Shepherd.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Commission on Aging through Isabella County.
