Irene Schmidt, 90, of Beal City passed away Friday, July 25, 2008. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 28, at St. Joseph The Worker Church in Beal City with Father Thomas J. McNamara presiding. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the church with the Vigil beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation continues on Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider St. Joseph The Worker School or the wishes of the family. Envelopes are available at the church or the Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home. Irene was born Sept. 23, 1917, in Isabella County, the daughter of William and Christine (Tilmann) Faber. She married the late Charles Schmidt on Nov. 20, 1943 at St. Philomena Church in Beal City. She was a life member of St. Joseph Church and a member of the National Council of Catholic Women. She enjoyed the love and company of her family and many friends. Irene is survived by three sons, Larry of La Crosse, WI, Kenneth (Anne) of Bay City, and Glenn (Martha) of Minneapolis; one daughter, Rita Crofton of Sanford; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; her brother, William (Kay) Faber of Beal City; four sisters, Sally Pasch of Beal City, Mary Hemgesberg of Freeland, Sister Cecelia O.P. of Gaylord and Sister Doris O.P. of Montana; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Charles Schmidt; parents; three brothers, Harold, Walter, and Arthur Faber; and three sisters, Jean Applegreen, Martha Reihl, and an infant twin sister. Her children thank all of their mothers and fathers family and friends who were so kind to her during their fathers last illness and during her independent living days on the family farm that she loved so dearly.
