Mike Murphy, 60, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Saturday, September 28, 2002 at Central Michigan Community Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 1, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert Byrne officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Monday from 7-9 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Mike was born March 12, 1942, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of John P. and Mary C. (Creed) Murphy. He had owned The Store party store in Mt. Pleasant since the early 1970's. It was previously known as the Sweet Shop. He graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1960 and attended Ferris State and Central Michigan University. He had a lifelong interest in autos and the local history of Mt. Pleasant. He enjoyed traveling and would spend 3-4 months a year in Fountain Hills, AZ. But the most important aspect in his life was his family. Upon his parents death, he became the center of the Murphy family. Mike is survived by five brothers, Timothy S. (Sue) Murphy of Mt. Pleasant, Patrick C. (Ann) Murphy of St. Joseph, Brian J. (Debra) Murphy of Fountain Hills, AZ, William R. Murphy of San Diego, CA, and Sean H. Murphy of Chicago; four sisters, Mimi (Bruce) Nolan of Mt. Pleasant, Ann O. (Warren) Doten of Greenville, SC, Meegan M. Murphy of Mt. Pleasant, and Bridget (John) Slipke of Simpsonville, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Alex Murphy, Eric Rau and Patrick J. Murphy. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Murphy.
