With deep respect and heartfelt sorrow, we announce the passing of James F. Ison Jr., who left us on June 9, 2026, at McLaren Bay Region Medical Center in Bay City. Born on January 6, 1945, in Oliver Springs, Tennessee, James lived a life marked by dedication, warmth, and an unwavering commitment to family and community.

James was the beloved son of the late James F. and Helen (Patrick) Ison. He graduated from Garden City East High School after attending Detroit Southeastern High School and furthered his education by earning a certificate from the school of paralegal studies, along with advanced courses in real estate. His passion for learning and professional growth complemented his successful career as a self-employed landman, serving various oil, gas, and utility companies until his retirement in 2007.

A proud military veteran, James honorably served in the U.S. Navy from 1962 to 1966, achieving the rank of MM3. His distinguished service earned him the Navy Expeditionary Medal, a testament to his courage and dedication during operations requiring exceptional commitment.

James was a man of many interests and joys. He loved golfing, fishing, attending horse races, playing cards, camping, and boating at Canadian Lakes. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family and friends, enjoying social gatherings, and sharing a beer with his close companions. His wonderful sense of humor, caring nature, and role as a social butterfly left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

On September 9, 1967, James married Charlotte Rose Navratil in Parma Heights, Ohio. Their union, lasting over 58 years, was a source of immense pride and happiness for him. Together, they built a loving family that was the center of his life. James is survived by his devoted wife, Charlotte; his son, Steve Ison, and daughter, Kristie (Kevin) Wilson, both of Mt. Pleasant; and his cherished grandchildren, Kendyl and Konnor Wilson, who brought him great joy and countless fond memories.

He is also survived by his siblings, James Allen (Jennifer) Ison and Kimberly Mack; his in-laws, Dan Navratil, Leo Navratil, and Stephen and Barb Navratil; and a host of special friends including Jim and Brenda Johnston, Juan and Marissa Zamudio, and Barbara Grajek. Additionally, several nieces and nephews carry on his legacy of kindness and family spirit.

James was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish, VFW Post 3033 in Mt. Pleasant, the American Legion of Farwell/Clare, and the Pleasant Investors II, communities that benefited from his participation and leadership.

He is preceded in death by his parents James F. and Helen W. Ison; sister and brother-in-law Brenda and Charlie Versellie; parents-in-law Frank and Dorothy Navratil; and sister-in-law Elaine Navratil.

Visitation for James will be held at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, on Thursday, June 11, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. His funeral will be held on Friday, June 12, at 11 a.m. with Deacon Jim Damitio officiating. The family will also receive friends at the funeral home on Friday one hour before the service. A reception will take place at Lincoln Reception Center immediately following, with the graveside service concluding at Calvary Cemetery, accompanied by military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans or Camp Hope.

James F. Ison Jr. will be remembered for his hearty laughter, compassionate heart, and the profound love he held for his family. His legacy endures in the lives he touched and the memories he leaves behind. May he rest in peaceful honor.
