James S. Neal Sr.

James Neal Sr., 65, of Stanwood and formerly of Grosse Ile, passed away Monday, June 21, 2010, at his home. His funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 24, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and on Thursday one hour prior to the service. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the National Kidney Foundation. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Jim was born Aug. 5, 1944, in Detroit, the son of the late Herschel and Katherine Neal. He married Janet Price on June 2, 1990, in Mackinaw Island. A graduate of Grosse Ile High School in 1962, Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967. He worked as a Millwright for Chryslers Trenton Engine for 32 years, retiring in 1999. He and his wife moved to Stanwood in 2000. Some of his favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting, boating, golfing, woodcarving, cooking, and just helping others. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the American Legion. Jim is survived by his wife of 20 years, Janet; son, James S. Neal Jr. of Detroit; step-children, Roger Joe (Patty) Orvis of Mt. Pleasant and Renee (Jim) Stafford of Taylor; granddaughter, Heather Neal; step-grandchildren, Mary, Kimmy, R.J., Desiree, and Nicki ; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
