She was born February 23, 1936, in Zanesville, Ohio, the daughter of the late James O. and Ruth M. (Ryan) Dennis. She graduated from LASH High School in Zanesville in 1954. She earned her bachelor's degree in biology from Marietta College in 1958 and her master's degree in communication disorders from Central Michigan University in 1983.

She was employed by CMU as an instructor in communication disorders and a speech-language pathologist. She had previously worked in Midland, and as a medical technologist in Ann Arbor.

Some of her favorite pastimes were reading, flower gardening, and being outdoors. She felt it was her mission to share her time and talents as a volunteer in the community. Over the years, she had numerous canine companions that she adored. She was a former member of St. Mary's University Parish in Mt. Pleasant.

Jane leaves behind her three children, Anne (Paul) des Lauriers of Lansing, Mary (Bill) Flaws of Waukesha, WI, and Dennis Leahy of Lansing; grandchidren, Daniel Flaws of Waukesha and Samuel Leahy of Lansing; very special friends, Kay Farber of Midland, Diana Hughes of Washington, and Pat O'Brien of Connecticut; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Robert Dennis, Florence Marie Martin, Carol Schmidt, and James Wm. Dennis; and former husband, Michael S. Leahy.

Jane will be laid to rest in Zanesville Memorial Gardens in Zanesville, OH. Rite of Committal will be on Tuesday, July 7, at 10:00 AM.
