Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Jane Wawersik, 46, passed peacefully in Tucson, AZ on December 3, 2018. A military veteran, she also commanded the 207th Multi-Functional Training Regiment, Joint Base Elmendorf " Richardson, Alaska. LTC Wawersik was born on April 10, 1972 in Mount Pleasant, MI to Daniel and Maris Wawersik. After graduating from the Reserve Officer Training Corps in July 1995, she was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army and assigned to the Military Police Company, Fort Richardson, AK. In 2011 Major Wawersik was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and detailed to serve as the Deputy Commander Inspector General. She served as an Investigator and Trainer for the Office of Complex Administrative Investigations from August 2014 until spring 2018. LTC Wawersik was a brave and loyal soldier, a champion for justice who never flinched one inch. A natural leader, she proved to be an exceptional mentor in one of the most demanding positions in the National Guard. She was also a patient and loving daughter and sister who is survived by her mother, Maris McCasey, brothers, Dennis (Katrina) and Mark (Amy); sister, Ann (Kjartan); and a host of other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her father Daniel. A Memorial Service (with full Military Honors) will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, December 16, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with Chaplain Theodore McGovern officiating. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Following the service, a luncheon will take place in Lincoln Reception Center (attached to the funeral home).
