Janet Louise Crawford

Janet Louise (Nelson) Crawford, age 88, of Mount Pleasant, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 19, 2025.

Born on January 23, 1937, in Lake Station, Michigan, to Hugh and Lillian (Ashley) Nelson, Janet grew up with a deep appreciation for family and learning. She graduated from Farwell High School and went on to earn her degree from Adrian College in 1964. Janet devoted her career to education, teaching high school English, and was especially proud of helping countless students develop strong writing and literature skills that prepared them for college and life. Her love for the classroom and her students was evident in everything she did.

On August 20, 1955, Janet married James Crawford, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and family. Their marriage of 61 years was a beautiful example of devotion until James' passing in 2016. Janet and James were blessed with three children: DeeAnn, Todd, and Gregg.

Family was the center of Janet's life. She was a proud mother to DeeAnn (Tony) DePaul and Todd (Judy) Crawford, and though preceded in death by her son Gregg Crawford, she carried his memory tenderly in her heart. She was also a cherished grandmother to Andrea (Nathan) McLaughlin, Amanda DePaul, and Anthony "Mark" DePaul II. Janet treasured every moment spent with her family and delighted in their accomplishments. She also gave her time and heart as a volunteer at Bixby Hospital in Adrian, where her compassion touched many lives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Lillian Nelson; husband James; son Gregg Crawford; and sister RuthAnn Stevens.

Janet's family finds comfort in knowing her legacy will live on in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and the many students she inspired over the years.

In keeping with Janet's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to The Care Team Hospice, whose support meant so much to Janet and her loved ones.
