Janet Elaine Newman

Janet Elaine Newman, 80, of Weidman, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Thursday, December 26, 2024. Janet was born March 29, 1944, in Durand, Michigan, daughter of the late Max W. and Sophie M. (Waydak) Stock. A graduate of Durand High School in 1962, Janet earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Central Michigan University. Her marriage to Wayne Newman was blessed with a daughter, Vickey. Janet was respected and truly loved by all who knew her. Her family, friends, and all the students she was devoted to during her forty years as a teacher for Beal City Schools were blessed by her kindness and compassion. She is survived by her companion and partner of 45 years, Kenneth "Pete" McDaniel; sister, Patricia Crawford; children, Vickey Newman (John Gordon), Ed McDaniel, and Kenny McDaniel (Shirley); grandchildren, Rannon Newman, Amanda Jolee, Shelly McDaniel, Eddie McDaniel and Clayton McDaniel; and many special nieces and nephews. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Sophie Nequist and Max Stock; siblings, Jerry Stock and Mary MacGillivray; and former husband and dear friend, Wayne Newman. A celebration of Jan's life will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2025, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior. Following the service all are invited to a meal at the Judge's Bench in Winn at 5 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sherman Township Library, 3453 N. School Rd., Weidman MI 48893.
