Jay William Ballinger, born on April 16, 1951, in Isabella County, Michigan, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026, in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. He was 75 years old. His parents were Carl and Alta Lucille (Pohlman) Ballinger and they had five children: Barbara, Dean (who died as an infant), Jay, Bonnie, and Kim.

Jay’s journey began in Breckenridge, Michigan, where he grew up surrounded by family and the hardworking German values and love of farming, that would guide him throughout his life. His last vehicle was a minivan; "a common van for the common man" he would remark, quoting the song lyric.

Jay’s favorite cruising partner was his daughter, Katie, and he cherished several vacations with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed visiting Mt. Pleasant twice a year to visit friends and family; more recently, he especially loved the company of his great-grandsons and hearing their voices.

He had a passion for Westerns, going to auctions(sales), action movies, and he deeply loved country music. He stated his favorite home was a cabin on Cranberry Lake in Harrison and his favorite job was at Lyle Industries. He lived the last 14 years in Quitman, Mississippi, where the pace of life and love for music and shenanigans was matched; dear friends there who sang his favorite songs during band nights every Tuesday. Jay enjoyed warmer weather and special friendships where "I love you" was frequently heard.

He was known for his love of friends/family and a great sense of humor, often sporting funny t-shirts and sharing witticisms. His unique character and laughter will be noticeably missed by all who knew him.

Jay’s legacy is most profoundly felt by his beloved family. He is survived by his daughters, Kathryn Ballinger and Courtney (Matthew) Little, who carry forward his love and lessons. His memory also lives on in his grandchildren Chelsie Ballinger, Gavin (Taylor) Ballinger-Villalobos, Lucas Frost, and Rowan Frost, each of whom brought great joy into his life. Jay’s extended family includes his sisters, Barbara (Gary) Ruprecht and Bonnie Ballinger, as well as his sister-in-law, Pam Ballinger; his niece Jennifer Ballinger and his nephew Wade Ballinger.
